A Playground Taking Shape
Last year, we made the difficult decision to close and remove our aging playground after determining it was no longer safe. Thanks to the generosity of parishioners who volunteered their time, the old structure was dismantled and we began planning for what could come next. With support from the Diocese through the Patricia Minkler Howell Children’s Outreach Grant, along with financial contributions and “sweat equity” from our parish, we set out to create a new playground rooted in our shared vision. An early priority was to create a space which welcomed all people - addressing mobility issues and access.
A small team worked together with Asheville Playgrounds to design a space that is safe, welcoming, and accessible for children and families. Construction began in February with clearing and grading the land, and we are excited to see the framework now in place. What once was an empty space is quickly becoming something full of life and possibility. We look forward to opening and blessing the playground this June.
This project reflects our mission—Worshiping God, Welcoming People, and Serving with Love—by creating a space where children can grow, families can gather, individuals can easily access the property, and our community can be strengthened.
