“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

—Ephesians 2:10

Ministries

  • Pastoral Care

The mission of the Pastoral Care Committee is to reach out to members of the parish who are homebound or isolated from the community due to health issues. We strive to help keep them connected to St. Luke’s and show them how important and cared about they are.

  • Fellowship

Celebrations at St. Luke’s are always festive and well-attended, thanks to a dedicated group of Fellowship team members who work hard at making each event special. Our devoted congregation sees St. Luke’s as “home” and doesn’t want to miss being with its church family for feast days and gatherings. Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and St. Luke’s Day are celebrations with potluck meals and outdoor games. Other fellowship events include celebrations of baptisms, and the welcoming of our Bishop every other year. All are welcome to join us for coffee hour every Sunday after the 10:30 service.

  • Outreach

St. Luke’s is committed to engaging a wider community with compassion and purpose, listening to its needs and responding with generous hearts.

Together, we believe that as we grow in faith and community, God will grow our church, deepening our roots and widening our reach. We meet monthly on the first Wednesday. Join us to become more engaged in our broader community outreach efforts.

    UPDATES for 2025

  • St. Luke's Scholarship

Since 1999, St. Luke’s has awarded an annual, renewable scholarship to aid and assist people who desire to continue their education but cannot because of their economic situation. The $2,000 scholarship is for those who want to pursue an undergraduate degree or certification in a designated curriculum of no less than two semesters. The award is available to any resident of Buncombe County who has been accepted by a post-secondary institution accredited by the United States Department of Education. The scholarship is intended for both high school seniors and adults wishing to seek a degree. Read more here.

  • Grounds

Bounded by Chunns Cove Road to the west and Ross Creek on its eastern boundary, the grounds of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church are multi-purpose in nature. In the 20th century, members could choose to be interred in the small graveyard, whose markers date to the late 19th century. The newer Garden of the Resurrection, for cremated remains, is in the shady south lawn. St Luke’s simple stone labyrinth lies at the eastern edge of the property.

Since 2008, the parish has worked with local environmental groups to remove invasive plants from the area beside the creek. The St. Luke’s campus is certified by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, as part of its FAITH program, to help to maintain a habitat for wildlife. The grounds also include a butterfly-hummingbird garden, wild bird nesting boxes. Bears visit Ross Creek regularly.

In 2012–2013, Asheville’s RiverLink environmental-protection organization also assisted in removing exotic plants and installed a naturalistic rain garden and bioswale to reduce hazardous runoff into the creek. The grounds are tended by dedicated parishioners, variously called “Lawn Stewards,” “Weed Warriors,” and” Weed Scouts” as well as other members of the local community. St. Luke’s campus is a welcoming and beautiful place to worship and to feel God’s presence.
